Goals of our Cooperation with the Alumni-Clubs
The DAAD sees these clubs and their members as important contacts since, as a rule, the members will now hold leading
positions in their home country. They all share the experience of having completed a study or research stay at a German
university or college. Their knowledge of two education and social systems makes them experts in all questions relating
to exchange between the host and home country.
The same applies by analogy to the Alumni Clubs set up by German alumni, which represent a continuation of the DAAD's
various special programmes. The Friends of the DAAD (www.daad.de/alumni/freundeskreis) is the cross-disciplinary and
cross-border alumni association for former German DAAD scholarship holders.
Specifically, the DAAD's cooperation with alumni clubs around the world pursues the following goals:
- To use the activities of the alumni clubs to ensure that the educational effect is sustained and that the picture of Germany remains up-to-date and relevant.
- To engage experts for regional pre-selection processes.
- To recruit quality students for Germany's higher education institutions.
- To provide guidance and counselling for German students abroad.
- To help attract scholarship and contract funding.

Programmes and Services
Alumni clubs are independent organisations which autonomously govern their own affairs, their make up and their specific
objectives. In order to qualify for DAAD support (also look at our support programmes for alumni clubs), the club must be recognised under national law. In addition, some of its
membership must be made of DAAD alumni.
When the support period is completed and the holder returns to his or her home country, we very much welcome it when
young alumni, in particular, then contact existing alumni clubs in order to contribute their up-to-date impressions of
Germany or the host country.
In those countries or regions where no alumni club exists yet, the DAAD may also be able to support
the setting up of such a club.
