"I am called Pedro and I come from Brazil. I am attending a German course at the Goethe-Institut. But that isn´t enough for me as I want to study German at a university here next year. So I want to learn a lot of German and study it intensively. I go nearly every day to the autodidactic centre at the university, where I can find programmes and material for autodidactic study. I simply sit at the computer, headset on, microphone on, and off we go. I revise some grammar, then I test myself with language games and quizz exercises, or practise new words. The autodidactic programmes are very good and very varied. Programmes are available on cassette, on CD-ROM or for downloading from the Internet. I can also borrow programmes, or buy them and learn on my PC at home.
The computer is like my teacher - it corrects me, gives me answers, sometimes it just laughs when I have answered something correctly. I find it´s fun to learn German like this. I can come and go whenever I like, I can practise whatever I want, and the computer is very patient. Of course, I miss the personal contact, but for that I attend the course once a week. For me, learning in an autodidactic centre is very practical and motivating."
