New German-Arab Master’s Programme in the Field of Renewable Energies, beginning Summer 2009

Veröffentlichungsdatum: 01.12.2008
28.02.2009; applications should be sent directly to the programme at the University of Kassel.

In August 2009, the bi-cultural Master’s Programme "Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency for the MENA Region (REMENA)”, organized by the University of Kassel and Cairo University in Egypt, will be launched. The programme is aimed at young professionals from Germany, Egypt and other Arab countries who already hold a first university degree and includes study phases both in Egypt and in Germany.

The Programme

The programme structure takes an interdisciplinary and integrative approach that goes beyond addressing questions related to the natural and environmental sciences. The economic, ecological and regulatory policy dimensions of the energy sector (e.g. national and international energy and climate policies, energy-management legislation, etc.) are reflected in the curriculum along with the socio-cultural aspects. In content and methodology this programme for academic professionals in environment and energy-related fields provides a practice and need-oriented opportunity for continued education that places special emphasis on the development of intercultural communication skills. Intercultural communication and management skills are trained through collective work in small mixed groups, placing graduates in a position to work together effectively in the future – on international projects for the scientific-technological cooperation or the development cooperation, for instance.

The programme stretches over 20 months, two study phases of which are spent in Cairo or the Arab region and one phase in Kassel. The first study phase in Cairo is comprised of an intensive preparatory German or Arabic language course and modules in intercultural training.

The course is held in English. Successful completion of the programme results in a Master’s degree.

Who can participate?

The target group of this postgraduate continued training opportunity are young professionals from the field of Renewable Energies, preferably with some practical work experience.

DAAD Sponsorship

German scholarship recipients are awarded a partial scholarship in the amount of 600 EUR per person and month during the study phase abroad, plus a lump-sum allowance for flight expenses, as well as health, accident and liability insurance.
