  • Subject: music

Programme Description

The non-profit Hertie Foundation (Hertie Stiftung) provides funding and support in the following three areas: Neurosciences, European Integration, and Learning Democracy.
Each year, the Hertie Scholarship Programme makes 10 scholarships each lasting one year available to members of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra who come from countries in eastern and central Europe. The scholarship serves to provide financial support for musical training at a university or a college.
Just before the major tours each year, the conductor, the lecturers and the orchestra musicians travel from all their respective bases in Europe to meet up. Together, they draw up the tours programme. These tours enable young musicians not only to gain orchestra experience but also provide them with further important impetus for their future careers.
The scholarship amounts to 500.- euros per month, with a scholarship extension of one year possible in special cases and upon application.

DAAD Glossary

Universität

"Universität" means university and is used for research universities (wissenschaftliche Hochschulen) that offer a broad range of subjects (like arts and humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, economics and business administration, law, medicine). These institutions confer doctorates. The strong research focus benefits students in their training. Please note, however, that English texts often use the term "university" generically, i.e. to cover all kinds of higher education institutions, for example, universities of the arts, universities of applied sciences, universities of education, etc.
