Research in Times of Change

A research system is currently being created in Germany that will guarantee greater flexibility, more freedoms in the field of employment and salary law, improved residence permit provisions for foreign top-flight researchers and greater autonomy for research organisations and institutes. Cross-disciplinary structures of excellence are being established and funded. Examples include Competence Networks (Federal Ministry of Education and Research - BMBF), Centres of Excellence and Collaborative Research Centres (DFG), Innovative Regional Growth Cores (BMBF), plus other major research and development projects based on cooperation between industry and research institutes.

These new structures have a great appeal for innovative researchers and include areas like EADS (Airbus), German Aerospace Centre (DLR) projects in the field of space flight research, Galileo, the "digital hospital" and many others areas.
