"Water for everyone – wishful
thinking or reality?"
Joint Forum on Developing Countries held by the DAAD
and the German Association for Water, Wastewater and
Waste (Deutsche Vereinigung für Wasserwirtschaft
- DWA) at IFAT 2005 on Thursday, 28 April 2005
Under the motto "Science Meets Water Management" a
joint Forum on Developing Countries was held for the
first time by the DAAD and the German Association for
Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA) at the International
Trade Fair for Water, Sewage, Refuse and Recycling (IFAT).
The event gave representatives of the German water management
industry a forum for discussion with experts from developing
countries.

Alumni from Africa, the Middle East and Asia presented opportunities and pointed out requirements for possible co-operation between science and the international water management industry in their home countries. Dr. Hanns Sylvester, head of the DAAD development co-operation division, called attention to the important role of alumni when science and industry co-operate to promote economic development. The DAAD has taken on an intermediary role in this field and may provide contact and other resources.
The response to project presentations was positive. Scientists and industry representatives vividly discussed prospects of future co-operation.
